An exceptionally rare and museum-quality pair of vintage Italian Murano glass table lamps, in the manner of Barovier & Toso and Seguso, circa 1960s.
Each lamp is a masterwork of Murano craftsmanship. The form is a voluptuous, triple-gourd silhouette: a large, waisted, ribbed bulbous base surmounted by two graduated ribbed spheres, separated by molten glass collars infused with pure 24k gold leaf. This creates a floating, jewel-like column.
The glass itself is extraordinary, as captured in your superb macro photography: a deep, saturated olive chartreuse / emerald green cased glass with the signature Bullicante technique - thousands of controlled air bubbles suspended within the thick glass walls. Each bubble is gilded with floating gold dust and gold leaf inclusions, known as Avventurina, that shimmer like stars in a green lagoon when the light catches them. The body is vertically ribbed, or costolato, which refracts the light and magnifies the gold flecks within.
The glass rests on an elaborate, heavy, pierced ormolu base in the Rococo manner: a quatrefoil base with scrolling acanthus leaves, beading, and scrolled feet in a dark patinated gilt bronze, with rubbed gold highlights as seen in your close-ups - the perfect baroque counterpoint to the modernist glass.
Each lamp has custom painted parchment shades, which are haute couture: a cream parchment with a hand-painted moss green border at top and bottom, trimmed with gilt bands and topped with a delicate hand-painted gilt rococo scrolling cartouche centered with a palmette. The original brass finials and heavy brass hardware with rotary switches complete the ensemble.
Wired with original gold cloth cord and in perfect working condition. A matched pair of this color, size, and condition with original shades is exceptionally rare.
