A magnificent and highly coveted pair of monumental low bowl planters, in the revered style of Atelier Vierkant, Belgium. The most sought-after form for contemporary Organic Modern design.
The silhouette is low, generous and profoundly sculptural: a wide, perfect ovoid bowl with a broad, open mouth and a low center of gravity. Designed to command a terrace, flank a monumental entry, or anchor a living space as pure sculpture. Perfect for ancient olive trees, sculptural boxwood, or as standalone art objects.
Notice the time-worn surface, documented in the photographs. This is not just paint - it is a heavily encrusted, volcanic, fresco-like patina built in layers. A base of warm, raw terracotta reveals itself through dramatic flaking and erosion in rich chocolate and iron brown. Over this, a thick crust of fossilized limestone, sand, and putty in beige and greige has been applied, heavily pitted and distressed. Washing across the lower body, beautiful, cloud-like blooms of faded ocean blue, sky blue and aqua emerge - soft and atmospheric, as if bleached by sea and sun. : the tactile, rough, pitted texture, the islands of brown where the stone crust has fallen away, the delicate blue watercolor effect.
The interio is finished in raw, unglazed terracotta with a central drainage hole, confirming authentic artisan, hand-thrown construction. Heavy, substantial, and made to last generations.
