A magnificent and highly decorative pair of vintage Italian Baroque table lamps, rendered as monumental twisted candlesticks.
Each lamp is sculpturally carved with exquisite architectural detail: a tall, spiraled barley-twist shaft rising from a stacked, triple-gadroon column of ribbed melon and acanthus forms, flaring to a wide, scalloped, fluted base. The silhouette is reminiscent of a 17th-century Italian church candelabrum, exuding grandeur and height.
The finish is superbly executed and is the highlight of the piece, as captured in your detailed macro photos: a heavily distressed silver-leaf with burnished antique gold wash, with intentional black rub-through, crackle, and time-worn patina revealing ochre and dark umber beneath. The texture is dry, chalky, and antique, with gold leaf peeking through every flute - the exact coveted finish seen in Tuscan villas and Hollywood Regency interiors.
The lamps are fitted with a double-cluster pull-chain socket in polished brass for double illumination, allowing for low and high light, with original ball pull-chains. The original brass finials and hardware are intact.
Retaining their original couture parchment shades. The shades are custom hand-painted: a creamy ivory lacquered ground with a wide, mottled verdigris blue-green border at top and bottom edged with burnished gold, and a hand-painted central acanthus cartouche in silver-gilt with scrollwork. The interior is gold-lined to cast a warm, flattering glow. When lit, the shades illuminate beautifully and complement the silvered base perfectly.
