A spectacular pair of monumental Gothic Revival wrought iron wall sconces, guarded by mythical dragons — a true piece of architectural history.

Each sconce is a masterpiece of hand-forged ironwork, designed as a fortress lantern. The form is a three-sided, open-cage shield with a dense pattern of hand-scrolled spirals set within a geometric grid. The crest is crowned with a dramatic palisade of spear-point finials and fleur-de-lis, bound with knotted iron ties reminiscent of a medieval gate.

The most extraordinary detail lies at the base: each lantern is supported by a fearsome, fully sculpted winged dragon / gargoyle with outstretched bat wings, a curled serpentine tail, and a powerful beaked head — a classic Gothic grotesque meant to ward off evil spirits. The dragons serve as both structural bracket and fantastical ornament.

The surface displays a magnificent, naturally acquired verdigris patina — layers of aged teal, blue-green, white, and rust over the original iron, creating a depth and texture that can only be achieved through a century of time. The backplates retain their original tin reflector to amplify the candlelight.
