An exquisite and highly atmospheric pair of small-scale English candlestick table lamps, in the Georgian Revival taste, circa 1940s.

Each lamp is a miniature sculpture in brass. The form is classically composed: a low, compressed bun base raised on three exquisite lion paw feet, a waisted stem supporting a wide drip pan, and a baluster socket topped with a faux wax candle sleeve with drips. The silhouette is that of a 19th-century chamber candlestick converted to electricity.

The patina is exceptional and is the soul of this pair, as captured in your macro photography: a deep, mottled, hand-rubbed antique brass finish in shades of blackened umber, mossy green, and burnished gold, with wear revealing the warm brass beneath. The surface is richly textured, pitted, and distressed - the coveted time-worn patina that cannot be faked. Your close-up of the paw foot shows the fine casting and rubbed highlights perfectly.

Retaining their original couture parchment shades. These are not fabric - they are genuine raw goatskin / vellum parchment, hand-cut into six scalloped panels and hand-laced with leather thong stitching along the seams and edges, as seen in your interior photo. The parchment is in a creamy, translucent natural hide color with beautiful mottling, age staining, and natural hide markings. When illuminated, they glow with an incredible, warm, amber translucence - pure magic for a bedside or mantel. Mounted on their original painted spider frames with brass ball finials and harps.
