This striking 19th century Italian altar stick is a finely carved example of Baroque-inspired ecclesiastical art, rendered in richly gilded wood. Standing on a tripartite base with exuberantly scrolled feet, the piece features an undulating profile adorned with acanthus leaves, volutes, and shell motifs, all typical of the Rococo aesthetic. The carving is deep and expressive, enhanced by the original gilded surface with areas of red bole peeking through, adding depth and warmth. A central heart-shaped cartouche at the base adds a devotional touch. The top is fitted with a metal pricket to hold a candle securely, indicating its liturgical function. This altar stick would make a dramatic decorative accent in any traditional or antique-inspired interior.
