18th Century Spanish Colonial Santos Base

An authentic 18th Century Spanish Colonial Santos peana / pedestal base, originally supporting a devotional figure.

Solid wood with original estofado and water-gilding. The sides are decorated with exquisite incised sgraffito work - a diamond lattice pattern over gold leaf, with fan motifs at the corners. The top retains traces of original polychrome and shows the mounting holes where the Santos figure was once fixed, with age wear, paint loss, and a rich, deeply timeworn patina.
