18th Century Spanish Colonial Baroque Column - Carved Teak Pillar
Hand-carved from a single massive teak log in the form of an Estípite column - a stacked inverted obelisk typical of Spanish Baroque altarpieces (retablos). The column rises in multiple graduated tiers of stylized lotus flowers, acanthus leaves, rosettes and architectural moldings.
The base features two finely carved winged cherubs / putti in high relief amidst floral garlands, resting on a flared lotus pedestal. The top terminates in a foliate finial.
Weathered natural finish with beautiful age patina, deep cracks, worming and erosion consistent with great age and outdoor / temple use. Mounted on a later rustic wood base for display.
