charming 18th Century Italian Baroque giltwood tassel-form finial, originally from a church altar, furniture, or grand drapery pole.

Carved in solid wood to imitate a fabric tassel with pleated fringe and domed cap with ball top. Retains its original water-gilding and pale pink polychrome with exquisite distressed patina, wear, and gesso showing through.
