18th Century Italian Baroque Giltwood Altar Finial on Lucite Base

The top features a pointed finial over a stacked rosette and bulbous lobed crown, on a slender columnar shaft with foliate base. Retains beautiful original burnished water-gilding over red bole with warm patina and minor losses that speak to its age.

Mounted on a contemporary clear lucite / acrylic block base, transforming this antique architectural fragment into a chic, collectible sculpture. The juxtaposition of antique sacred gilt and modern transparent base is highly sought after by decorators.
