A charming small 18th Century Venetian cartouche mirror in the Rococo taste, circa 1760-1780.
The frame is carved in the form of a scrolling shield / cartouche with bold C-scrolls, acanthus leaves, and a central palmette crest. Carved in wood with original silver leaf (now beautifully tarnished to a warm, distressed silver-gilt with ochre and rose undertones showing through).
Retains its original mercury mirror plate with lovely age spotting, foxing, and sparkle - exactly what collectors want in a mirror of this period.
