This rare pair of late 19th-century Italian lanterns combines rustic ironwork with elegantly carved wooden bases, showcasing the charm of Southern European craftsmanship. Each lantern features a hand-forged iron frame with beveled glass panels, topped with decorative rosettes and scroll details. The iron has developed a rich, naturally aged patina with timeworn textures that speak to its history. The bases are hand-carved from wood, with an urn-like baluster form resting on a stepped plinth. Layers of original polychrome finish remain visible, revealing traces of white, black, and natural wood in a beautifully distressed surface. Originally candle-lit, these lanterns were likely used in a chapel, villa, or courtyard setting and can be displayed as they are for their authentic character or thoughtfully rewired for soft ambient lighting.
