An exceptional 19th century hand-painted American immigrant trunk bearing the name Henry A. Tefft of Racine, Wisconsin, richly decorated in a folk-art floral motif. This rare survivor is a beautiful example of immigrant craftsmanship and personal expression, blending utility with artistry. The trunk features its original painted surface, with scrolling foliate vines and stylized flowers in tones of ochre, red, and pale blue set against a dark green-black ground. The top is adorned with an ornate medallion of floral ornamentation framed by brass tack detailing, which also continues along the edges and corners. Brass straps and hardware accentuate the corners and rim, while hand-wrought iron handles remain intact on either side. The painted lettering on one side panel documents the original owner, adding a layer of provenance and American historical context. The trunk sits atop a later, simple wooden stand for display and height.
