Pair of 19th Century French Louis XVI Painted Mirror Consoles with Carved Garlands France, circa 1880 A rare and elegant pair of tall French Louis XVI-style mirror consoles, richly hand-carved and finished in a soft, timeworn ivory paint with traces of gilt and natural wood peeking through. Each piece combines the functionality of a wall-mounted demilune console with the decorative impact of a full-length mirror, making them ideal for entryways, salons, or flanking fireplaces. The carved frames feature detailed laurel leaf garlands, rosettes, and a dramatic draped ribbon crest at the arched crown—hallmarks of the Louis XVI aesthetic. Below the mirror, each console boasts a carved demilune shelf supported by a central tapered leg, adorned with additional floral and garland carving, and inset with mirror panels that enhance the depth and light. The original mirror plates show attractive foxing and age-related silvering, offering a rich antique character. The back is covered with a traditional linen canvas, fastened with hand-forged upholstery nails, indicative of 19th-century craftsmanship. These pieces were likely crafted for a grand Parisian hôtel particulier and remain both structurally sound and visually captivating. Their slim profile and combined form make them especially rare and desirable as a matched pair.
