An elegant French giltwood sofa finely carved in the Louis XV taste, featuring a gracefully shaped serpentine back crowned by a richly carved crest rail centered with a pierced cartouche and scrolling foliate motifs. The molded frame is enriched with hand-carved floral rosettes, scrolling acanthus, and beaded detailing throughout, retaining its original water-gilded surface with a richly aged, warm patina.

The sofa rests on cabriole legs terminating in scrolled feet, with carved knees echoing the floral ornamentation of the arms and shaped apron. The gently outscrolled arms and fluid silhouette exemplify the lightness and movement associated with the Louis XV style.

Upholstered in a period-appropriate woven textile with a subtle allover damask pattern in soft golden tones, harmonizing beautifully with the giltwood frame. Upholstery shows age-appropriate wear and may be refreshed if desired.

Provenance:
From a registered historic landmark residence in Hancock Park, Los Angeles, California, a distinguished early 20th-century estate known for its preserved architectural and decorative integrity.
