19th C. English decanter set housed in a wooden and metal-framed caddy. There are three crystal decanters with intricate crosshatched and diamond-patterned designs. Each decanter has a large, faceted stopper. The caddy is made of polished oak with curved side panels and silver-tone metal accents. A rectangular metal handle sits on top, allowing for easy carrying. Metal hardware and corner brackets reinforce the structure. This type of item was traditonally used for serving spirits such as whiskey or brandy and is often referred to as a "tantalus". The lockable nature of such sets in the past was intended to prevent unauthorized access to the alcohol.
